mess = mold

So my guide dog is REALLY messy when she drinks water. I have multiple matts and towels under her water bowl, and because of the layout of my apartment there isn't really room on the hard-wood floor so it's on the carpet. I feel like I'm constantly drying the rug and picking up the towels, but it still managed to result in mold on the carpet. I tried blow-drying, which kind of worked, but was wondering if any of yall have dealt with extremely messy-drinking dogs?

Hmm, well, I'm not sure if this would be helpful or not but I figured I'd post it anyway.
You might consider getting some sort of absorbant pads with rubber bottoms. You'd have to change them at least once a day to allow them to dry out but if you had 2, then you could alternate them.
I'm thinking something like floormats for cars.
Our dogs are very messy drinkers too but we have their water bowl on a lynolium floor in the laundry room. I can definitely see where this would be problematic.
I'm not sure how to get the mold out of the carpet because all I've ever heard of for removing mold is bleach. You certainly don't want to bleach your carpet. lol
Another option might be those potty pads they sell on TV for pet house breaking. Granted, they wouldn't be soaking up urin but rather water but they could work. Liquid is liquid, after all. I've never seen them in person though so don't know much about them.
Oh, I just had one other thing pop into my head. What about something like a cafeteria tray to put the water bowl on? That would at least keep the water contained so you could dump it out, unless of course your dog is like my husband's dog who drinks and then drules and drips for several feet. lol
Anyway, these are the suggestions I have. Hopefully one might be helpful.
Good luck.

I have a food and water stand and it really seems to help keep the water from splashing. It doesn't poor over the sides and on the floor but over the sides and in to the stand. Then I just dump the stand out.

Try to only keep a quorter to half a bowl full of water, this will help keep the splashing down.

Aside from that perhaps put the bowls on a cookie sheet. I did that when I was left to look after the daughter's cat for a week when she had one, and they were gone. That was my way of preventing ant incidents - in Florida - where the food and water would get on the floor and spread. Then it's also easy to clean out the cookie sheet also.

Yeah, a cookie sheet. That's more like what I meant by a tray.

wonder if those would be big enough/ You can buy a cylicone tray from the store that could help with this. Or place the bowl in a largerdish.

I bought one of those aluminum disposable pie tins and put the water and food bowls in that. We'll see if it helps :)
Thanks yall for the suggestions. Haha we'll see what I an come up with as far as getting the mold out of the carpet.
